What Beautiful Eyes You Have

“Does it matter if he loves you?”

Suzu stared at his reflection. His eyes were a vibrant orange. Only comparable to oranges themselves. You didn’t get that kind of shade anywhere else. Shirou had always loved his eyes. He’d babbled over himself.

“Belle’s eyes are, they’re, they’re like. Belle has the most beau… Belle’s eyes are like violets! They’re just like violets! They’re my favourite flower ‘cause they’re like your eyes, Belle!”

Suzu wiped the make-up from around his eyes. Maybe he could buy colour contacts. Then again, he wasn’t certain if regular humans could even see the orange.

“Berg,” Burai wrapped an arm around him. Burai never touched him when he was standing up. He always wanted him to be shorter. Suzu had bought heels. “Come back to bed.”

Suzu kept a picture of the two of them in the corner of the mirror. They’d never been the stars of Mother Bird, but there had been a couple cast photos. Little cards that came with the caramels and cigarettes at the theatre. Suzu’s one had become faded and dog eared already.

“You’re beautiful, Berg. Anyone would count themselves lucky to have you. You don’t need him to love you.”

Didn’t need Shirou to love him.

He didn’t need Shirou to love him.

Maybe that was true? Maybe he didn’t.

Did it really matter if Shirou had forgotten him completely? If he saw this version of him and couldn’t love him? Did he need Shirou’s love?

Wasn’t it enough for him to love Shirou?

He was a kaiju now. His face was fixed, but he still wasn’t the girl Shirou had fallen in love with. But he was strong. As he was now, he could protect Shirou from anything.

He could be useful.

Even if Shirou never loved him again.
