Ninpu Sentai Hurricaneger

Publication Date: 20/07/2019

Liveblog

Hurricaneger is unfortunately not the most stand out series. I enjoyed it plenty but in the end it’s a pretty run of the mill sentai. It holds some of the things that would be adapted to Power Rangers Ninja Storm, but I ended up liking Ninja Storm more. There’s nothing actually wrong with Hurricaneger, but it just doesn’t particularly stand out to me. The villains aren’t really anything special either.

Oboro however is the standout character of this series and I love her.

Yosuke is approximately 3 and a half years old and we await his 4th birthday so he will finally be a big boy! Yosuke is a very childish red and honestly any suggestion at letting him be the leader was a bad choice. I love him, but he's not ready to lead anyone. Slacking off to eat persimmons was probably his best move.

However, I enjoyed having such a physically affectionate character, he really likes being close to people and is a sweet puppy.

TOEI EXECUTIVE: So like, the two careers for women are teacher and idol, right?

Despite Toei being Toei, I love Nanami. She’s a dumb lesbian that fights all who betray her. I don’t really mind her having to be an idol too much given I guess she did get kidnapped and forced to attend this ninja school. Though there’s probably a lot better careers they could of took her to. Nanami is as dumb and emotionally unaware as Yosuke at least, and it makes sense why they’re friends. She’s not as much of a baby but they’re very alike.

The brains of the slacker trio. Honestly I loved that they had him be a child (physio?)therapist when he wasn't busy as a hurricaneger, it really helped to show his actual strengths. Kouta is all our brains and emotional intelligence. Kouta holds up a lot where the team struggles.

I’m saying it here but neither of these brothers have any brain left inside their skulls.

They’ve been in too many fights, any would be brains are just mush now.

Isshu is straight and dumb as a bag of rocks. These are his defining traits probably.

In actuality, he’s a lot more open than Ikkou, being the first to tell their goals, tell their backstory, etc. Isshu’s not as invested in obtaining “that” (what did you boys even want “that” for anyway) as Ikkou it seems but something something bring our secret ninja school out into the public to make it not secret and not the dark ninja school or something.

Ikkou is gay and just as dumb. He wants to be the best space ninja ever. I don't care that space ninjas exist in this universe, that doesn't make this dream seem any less silly. Ikkou seems like he got more wrapped up in their father's quest until they finally join the hurricanegers. Afterwards he's mostly just dumb and trying to show off to Yosuke.

Which is enough to make me like him.

Shurikenger came into my home and did everything in his power to upset me. Primarily calling everyone "boy", whatever he's doing in this picture, and playing baseball. Also stealing the bodies of all your old sentai faves.

The man is a gay disaster.

The main issue of shurikenger is he’s a bit of a gimmick character. We got his backstory a bit but it wasn’t really the most standout. He’s still… likeable though.

Hurricaneger isn’t high on my recommendation list at all, but I wouldn’t say it’s a bad series.
