Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers

Publication Date: 13/01/2019

Oh MMPR, you sure are a show that we keep bringing up because of nostalgia… despite the fact you’re not good. MMPR is as it always was, it’s a 3 season long after school special of every lesson you, as a child growing up in the 80s and 90s, had to learn. It’s all here. Your regular recycle, save the rainforest, here’s our one episode Jewish friend to tell us about Hannukah, here’s our accidental racism in a show about acceptance. Every pitfall these shows had, but they paved the way for better shows our kids are watching now.

It’s been said before by many what I will have to say here; the rangers were a load of popular goody two shoes who at times seemed more of bullies than Bulk and Skull. Also I have to talk about Zordon era by separate seasons so that’s gonna make talking about Bulk and Skull difficult. They do make this show though, and especially because Skull not only plays piano but is a les mis fan? 10/10 MMPR.

Also I put on the MMPR soundtrack to write this and I think this show has conditioned me to enjoy it? I was born too late for MMPR, why am I reacting like this to this show.

I’ve concluded MMPR does not have any rangers worth talking about, I can literally only care for the development of Bulk and Skull. I’ll just say outright Billy is my favourite ranger. That’s the most important thing here.

Otherwise of course Rita and Zedd are fun, I ended up really liking their relationship surprisingly, and then I really liked Rito and Goldar’s dynamic later in the series. Rito felt like a lot more fun of a villain to bring in and have interact with rangers and the other villains.

Don’t watch MMPR if you think this is going to be a genuinely good show, only watch this for like, nostalgia or irony or something like that because this is a bad show for babies. Yet I semi love it.
