Power Rangers Ninja Storm

Publication Date: 25/08/2019

I believe I said it while talking about hurricaneger, but I did pretty much prefer Ninja Storm out of the two. Of course, Ninja Storm itself is very power rangers. It’s the cool sports of the early 2000s, it’s a lot faster and we get to give all the rangers bikes early on. I love the jokes in this series, but I’m an easy please 5 year old.

This is also one of the few power rangers series where I feel pretty confident talking about each individual ranger, so I think that speaks for itself. I also just loved the dynamics of the rangers in this series, they did a good job of making them feel like friends.

I also really like a lot of the changes they made, especially with the villains. First off, I don’t have to keep hearing about “that”. I really like Lothor and like him being related to Watanabe-sensei, I know it’s more of a power rangers theme to thing to have families at odds but I think it worked well in this story. He’s not the most intimidating but he’s intimidating enough.

I love Marah and Kapri, this was such a nice step up from their sentai counterparts and they made some really fun female villains. The twist genuinely got me due to how much comic relief had come from the villains and I was super excited. After having such fun enjoyable villains, having them get serious towards the end of the series was really exciting.

Vexacus was also a great villain to watch, he really helped play up the villain side of their team, following through with some of the stuff from Hurricaneger. However, I did prefer Marah and Kapri to everyone else in this.

I need to mention is somewhere so just quickly Tori constantly sounds dubbed over and sometimes like they’ve put an underwater filter on her, and it is extremely weird.

I really liked Shane as our red, and can say that this isn’t a particularly red focused series. He really felt like a good friend of the other wind rangers. Also, he’s a lot more mature than his sentai counterpart. Shane felt like a leader and it was really right for him to be the red.

I do really like Tori, despite whatever happened with her audio, and of course it’s great to have a female blue ranger. We could of done with some stronger parts to her story though, since a lot of what I remember centred on her relationship with Blake. Still, she’s great.

I love Dustin, he’s just a fun character. He’s soft and I really like how he was used for introducing the thunder rangers. Dustin is sweet and easy to like throughout.

Of the thunder ninjas, Blake takes the primary role out of them. He’s a lot better at talking, getting along with people, planning, etc. He makes for a really strong ranger. We also have, as stated before, his relationship with Tori which ultimately doesn’t amount to much but it’s alright throughout the course of the show. It’s definitely not the worst wrote romance I’ve had to sit through.

Hunter is extremely dependent on Blake and it is one of the funniest parts of the series to me. The amount of times that it just seems to be you move Blake 5 metres away and Hunter gets separation anxiety is wild. Tori comes back from a date with Blake at one point and mentions Hunter being there despite us not seeing him. Hunter why are you like this? Hunter is also a lot less of the primary out of the two compared to Ikkou and Isshu, which is an interesting change.

I really like Cam, he’s a good combination of Oboro and Shurikenger. I feel it was a nice way to expand on a character like Oboro, who had all the strength and means to be a ranger but never was. It’s also nice having a sixth ranger that appears early and grows to like the team before he takes his place as an actual ranger, saving us the whole thing of sixth who wont get along with anyone. It’s also nice to have such a smart ranger on the team.

Watch Ninja Storm, you’ll have a good time.
